My Dog Ate My Homework.

My delightful dog decided to chew through the post-it notes I was using for my storyboard, so I guess it's back to the drawing board! I'm making a few alterations to my original storyboard plan: I will be doing a 'Flip book' which will flick through  parts of my final clip, and this time I will keep it out of reach of the beast!

Our company is Spot Cleaning; it is a carpet cleaning based company that guarantees you will have a clean carpet on the spot when you call. Our advertisement is showing the point of view of one of our workers cleaning and stopping at nothing to get your floor cleaned for you. Our slogan “When we clean your carpets you’re going to be floored” is carried through into this advertisement by having somebody being bumped into and being ‘Floored’ on the cleaners way through.
This appeals to our target audience of a middle class and middle economic situation because it also shows we don’t use amazingly expensive products and it is very affordable for the class and people we are targeting.
The main intention of our advert is to show the customers what our cleaners will do to get your floor spotless and also showing the speed at which they do it as well.  The sound accompanies the portrayal of speed at which our cleaners work and their proficiency. The ‘bam’ at the end is taken from a television advert to add some comedic influence into it.

DSDN 101, Project 3: Stop Motion Test.

I've been playing around with post it notes to see what will work best for stop motion. I'll do a few more tests as well so i can try some different things. For some reason when I tried to render it, it became really slow, so I will fix that and re-upload the fixed version when I get it working properly.

DSDN 101, Project 3: Inspiration.

I really like the idea of using paper or post-it notes in a stop motion film, and this is a good example of this.

I also like the idea of incorporating everyday objects into a stop motion video, to show other unexpected ways of using them (as shown in the 'Western Spaghetti' video. There are other ways to see/interpret things that we wouldn't usually consider.

“It is, however, only gentle motion that belongs to the beautiful; for when it is very swift, or very forcible, such as that of a torrent, it partakes of the sublime.”-Alexander Jamieson.

This passage (from Alexander Jamieson) implies that beauty is shown through the use of gentle curves and waves, an idea that is clearly shown in one of the designs that inspired my work (Thomas Bruseck’s A Wooden Fluidity). His work shows that a design can have elements of fluidity and beauty through the use of curves and layering in wood, a material that is not considered to be fluid. Another design that inspired my work was Mcbride Charles Ryan’s Letterbox House. The design of this building is very angular and geometric, but it is still elegant. He uses angles and planes to create tension and impact in his design, which makes very effective. I have incorporated elements from both of my inspiring images in my final model.


Through the use of aluminium wire and vellum I was able to create fluidity and motion in my model, as well as tension. This was achieved through the use of arcs and angles. The gentle layering of the vellum arcs gives the model a graceful feel, while the angular wire base creates tension. The combination of these two elements expresses the idea that curves and lines can come together to create beauty in motion, which may not be visible when they are in separate forms. From the combination of two very different elements fluidity is formed.
