DSDN 101, Project 3: 300 Words

-Media design is all around us.

“Interaction with media design changes how we see the world around us”

The idea behind my stop motion film is that interacting with media design changes our perception of other aspects of our environments; it changes how we see the world around us. By clicking on a webpage, turning on a cell phone or interacting with one of the many other forms of design work, we change how we see other concepts, ideas and forms.

The constant flow of information (both intellectual and visual) that surrounds society influences us and our opinions. We form new opinions and ideas, which make us interact with other things in a different way. Suddenly you see that building in a new light- or that piece of work with new eyes. This new way of seeing things in turn changes how we feel about other things again, it creates a chain reaction or ripple effect. This chain reaction continues around, to come full circle. You see a Photograph; form an opinion about it, then over the next few hours you interact with other photos, websites and design work. You come back to the original photograph and, because of the experiences you have had, you see the photo in a completely different way.

I used different coloured post it notes to express this idea. One click of the mouse and everything changes, with different colours (which signify different ideas and viewpoints) moving across the screen and continuously changing. I also used different patterns and techniques to highlight the idea that each experience we have influences us in a different way. No two colours and patterns were used the same way, just like no two people have the exact same opinions and ideas; everyone has had different experiences and sees the world of media design in a different way.
